“Exalt the Lord our God, And worship at His holy hill; For the Lord our God is holy.” Psalms 99:9
The whole progression of this psalm speaks of a great and awesome God who draws near to us. God’s grace points us back to His holiness. He is perfectly just and He is also perfectly merciful.
God’s holiness is God’s distinctiveness. His very nature, the fact that He alone is God, makes him distinct with no rivals or competition.
When the Bible calls God holy, it means primarily that God is transcendentally separate. He is so far above and beyond us.
Exaltation is, in essence, worship of God in light of who He is. The Psalmist here tells us that we are to worship Him because He is HOLY.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, LORD, awesome and holy is your name! You sit on your throne in majesty; you are King and yet you hear my cries and answer me. You are worthy of our praise simply because of who you are—supreme above all nations and yearning for every person to come to know you. Worthy are you, Lord! I will sing about your holy name throughout the day! In Jesus name Amen!!
