I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger… John 6:35
The word “manna” means “what is this?” It is also named “bread from heaven.” When Israelites left Egypt, they faced several difficult situations, one of them being food scarcity. When they prayed, God sent them food from heaven and satisfied their hunger. If we count the population, there were 600,00 men on foot (Exo. 12:37); if you consider the family, it is more than 1.2 million. God fed all Israelites for 40 years in the wilderness.
Manna is a type, or foreshadowing, of Jesus. After Jesus fed 5000 people, they asked Him to show a sign like Manna. Jesus responded wonderfully, “For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” And continued, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger” (Jn. 6:35). The “physical” Manna came down to satisfy hunger temporarily, but “heavenly” Manna (Jesus) came down to satisfy the entire world’s spiritual hunger “permanently” by providing eternal life.
