“He shall be like a tree planted by the waters… its leaf will be green” – Jeremiah 17:8
The Lord is revealing two contrasting personalities. Firstly, a group of people who trust in frail human beings and turn their hearts away from the Lord. The result is that they have no hope for the future and are ‘cursed people’. They will live in barren wilderness.
The second group of people are those who trust and rely on the Lord solely and completely. The result is that they have a confident living hope and are ‘blessed people’. They are like trees planted by the water brooks and will not be worried when calamity strikes.
Which group do we belong to? Do we trust in human beings who are visible? or do we trust God who is invisible? Do we trust in human help and support which will certainly fail or God who will never fail? Those whose trust is in the LORD, will never be put to shame.
