Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows. Isaiah 53:4
The literal meaning of “grief” in Hebrew is “sickness” or “disease” and “sorrow” means “pain”. Steve Jobs on the sickbed, quoted, ‘You can employ someone to drive the car for you, make money for you but you cannot have someone to bear the sickness for you.’ In contrast, today’s verse says that Jesus Christ bore our sickness and carried our pain. The Bible says, ‘All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.’ We all have ‘sickness of sin’, sin brings shame and separation from God. But the will of God is not to separate us from Him. God the Father has laid the iniquity of us all on His Son, the Son had to bear the consequences of our sin. Jesus bore the shame and punishment of sin. Jesus gave Himself to be punished for our sins and in our place. He bore not only our sin but also our grief and sorrow so that humans receive both physical and spiritual healing.
Let us stand amazed in the presence of Jesus for what He has done for us. There is no better time than today, to believe Jesus and receive Him if you have not. Jesus knew our failures and weaknesses that we would fall into sin again and again, but still, Christ bore all of our sin and pain. As Christ bore our griefs and carried our sorrows, now it is our turn to bear Christ and His Cross daily and Share Christ.
