The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

God’s lovingkindness is better than life

Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. Psalms 63:3

Psalm 63 was written by David while he was alone in the wilderness of Judah. David had reason to be afraid, lonely, confused, and probably lacking in supplies. Yet, he writes a Psalm that declares his love, praise, and thankfulness for God’s presence in his life. David knew His God was a promise keeper and that the loving kindness of the Lord was more to be desired than life itself. David knew that in Him is abundant life and through Him we discover a joy that never ends.

We also experience wilderness in our lives, but our reaction may not be the same and it may be quite opposite to David. The more natural response would be to question God when our life takes unexpected turns. Our God is worthy of our praise no matter what circumstances we face in our lives. This verse teaches us a valuable lesson that without His life there is nothing other than death and without His loving-kindness there is only sadness. Let us earnestly seek the Lord knowing He is the source of living water and with our lips let us sing praises to His wonderful name.
