By humility and the fear of the Lord
Are riches and honor and life. Proverbs 22:4
If you ask a person to define a successful life, eight out of ten people will say to be rich and honored in society. In today’s verse, King Solomon gives a recipe for riches and honor in life. Solomon says, “Be humble and fear the Lord.”
True humility is recognizing and acknowledging our sinful state that once we were lost, wandering astray, spiritually blind, enslaved by sin, morally ruined, and condemned to eternal punishment in hell. God sent his son, incarnated as a human being, lived a perfect life, bruised, beaten, died, and risen to give us all salvation. The more we understand this crazy love, the more we can come closer to Christ. The more we come closer to Christ, the more it keeps us humble. The more we get humble, the more we will have a reverential fear towards our Lord.
If you humble yourselves and have that reverential fear of the Lord, My dear, true riches, honor, and life are stored up for you in the age to come. And while we live on this earth, we will live an abundant life filled with peace, joy, and contentment. Amen.
