Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Jude 1:21
Through today’s verse, Jude is exhorting us to keep ourselves in the love of God. Does he mean we need to do something that God will start to love us, or do we need to do something that God will continue to love us? No. I don’t think so.
Paul writes to Ephesians, saying, “God loved us even when we were dead in our trespasses ” (See Ephesians 2:4-5).” God loved us even before we were saved, and God will continue to love us until eternity because you and I are God’s precious children.
Jude is saying here that there are some gifts/blessings that God wants to give to all of us because He loves us; they can be spiritual gifts or earthly gifts. Jude is saying, keep yourself in a place to receive them.
We all know the parable of the prodigal son. When the son went astray, did the father stop loving him? No. It’s just that the prodigal son moved away from the comforts and blessings that his father provides.
My dear, God loves us as we are. God’s love for us is unconditional, unmerited, unfathomable, sacrificial, and eternal. As Paul says, nothing can separate us from the love of God. Let’s not go astray and miss the blessings of God; let’s strive to keep ourselves always in the place to receive them so that His purpose through our lives might be accomplished.
Amen.
