The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

El Qadosh

Let them praise Your great and awesome name – He is holy. – Psa. 99:3

When a surgeon prepares surgical instruments for surgery, he first cleans and sterilizes instruments. After sterilizing, the surgeon never uses these surgical instruments for anything except surgery.

In today’s portion, the Psalmist is saying that our God is Holy (El Qadosh), and He is without error and fault; He is absolutely pure. As God is Holy, He wants us to be Holy. Isa. 57:15 talks about God’s holiness and His hatred towards sin. At the same time, He desires to seek, save sinners and revive the lost. That’s why God came as Jesus to sanctify us and restore the world to its original holy and perfect state.

As the surgeon wants his surgical instruments to be clean and set apart, God is also expecting His people to be set apart to do His will. While we praise the great and awesome El Qadosh’s name, let us strive to live a holy life.
