The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

I am the good shepherd

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep John10:11

The term “good shepherd” is greatly highlighted in the passage of John 10. In this passage you will see the analogy of a flock of sheep and a shepherd. In those days shepherding was obviously a metaphor in the ancient world that people understood in that culture. It was very common in the Old Testament as we read in Psalm 80. God was called shepherd of Israel. Psalm 23 “The Lord is my shepherd” and other places. Shepherds spoke of care and feeding and protection.
The sheep in the verse is a description of us. In fact, the Old Testament part of the bible says that “all we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned everyone to his own way (Isa 53:6). We begin life as sinners going astray and doing things our own way, just like that sheep who are far from way from their shepherd. What we do springs from a nature which is opposed to the laws of God. The Bible helps us appreciate that everyone of us in this state. ‘All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God’.
As we are in the lent season, remembering the time Christ was on the cross, God poured out on His Son His wrath and anger against sin. But how grateful we are that the Lord Jesus gave His life in the stead of our life. He bore our punishment and He laid down his life for us.
