Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity! – Psa 133:1
Psalm 133 begins with an exhortation to Behold- that is, to take notice. What follows afterwards is important and deserves our attention. David draws our attention to something good and pleasant.
-It is good because it reflects God’s heart and purpose of unity among His people
– It is pleasant because it makes life together as God’s people so much more enjoyable than seasons when constant arguments and conflicts dominate.
When people dwell together in unity it’s like dew. Mount Hermon is the highest mountain in Israel and one of the few places where dew falls. Dew is gentle, it softens the ground and encourages growth. Likewise, when people dwell in unity, they are gentle with one another. Their words are kind, and they encourage people to grow.
Apostle Paul tells us in Rom 12:18 “to live at peace with everyone”. and also, in John 17:21. The Lord Jesus prayed one of the last prayers on the eve of his sacrifice, He interceded for the unity of all Christians. Unity with our fellow Christians is not an option, but God’s will and intention for all members of the body of Christ.
