The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

Why did Abraham lifted his hand to the Lord?

I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God.  Gen. 14:22

Lot chose to possess Sodom which is a wicked nation whereas Abraham chose to live in tents. Lot is Abraham’s nephew. When Abraham heard that Lot had been taken captive by the enemies, he led his trained men and went in pursuit to a distant land. After defeating the enemies, Abraham brought back Lot and his possessions and the women and the people. After his return King of Sodom requested Abraham to return his people but can take the plunder for himself for which Abraham replies “ I have lifted my hand to the Lord, God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth, that I would not take a thread or a sandal strap or anything that is yours, lest you should say, I have made Abraham rich”.

When Abraham said he has lifted up his hand to God he emphasis that

  1. His hands are transparent in giving and taking.

  2. He inquires God at all times.

  3. He gives the foremost priority to God in all the matters and at all circumstances of his life.

  4. He tries to please God more than man.

Keeping the above four in our thoughts today let’s examine ourselves too and May God bless us with a wonderful week ahead.

Have a Blessed day.
