Nothing shall be impossible unto you. Matt. 17:20
WOW !!! What a great verse this is!!!! It is very easy for us to get side tracked and claim this promise without getting into the actual reason for this promise to come true.
The context here is that a lunatic was brought to Jesus’ disciples who could not cure him. Then Jesus heals the boy and tells the disciples that they could not cure because of their unbelief. But not only that, he goes on to add another statement and that is found in verse 21, “However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
We are living in a surplus country having no lack most of the times. We are not concerned about our own needs and our family needs many times because we feel that we have the money, influence, insurance etc that can get us out from the troubles of our life. Many people have replaced the term fasting with feasting! God forbid, that we should be one of them.
Now, before you get me wrong, fasting prayer is not going on a hunger strike to get GOD do what we want. Isaiah 58 speaks about “Right and Wrong fasting”. The people of Nineveh fasted along with their animals(Jonah 3:7). 2 Chronicles 20 gives the picture of “A man who won a battle without fighting”.
May we also get into the habit of fasting and praying before the earthly, bodily infirmities creep in.
Fasting, coupled with mighty prayer, is powerful. Joseph B. Wirthlin
