The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

Called by name!

Isaiah 43:1
“But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”

This verse shows that this chapter is connected with the preceding. The sense is, though God has punished the nation, and showed them His displeasure (Isaiah 42:24-25), yet now He will have mercy and will deliver them. “To call by name” this phrase denotes intimacy of friendship. What it means that God had particularly designated them to be His people. His call had not been general, addressed to the nations at large, but had been addressed to them in particular. Compare Exodus 31:2, where God says that He had designated “by name” Bezaleel to the work of constructing the tabernacle. Let’s start our day with the promise we have received from our Lord our Savior and do not be worried or anxious about anything but bringing everything into His presence and He will bless everything and make all things work out new and best for us. We are His, because He had formed us as His people, and had originated our institutions; because He had redeemed us, and because He had particularly designated us as His. So let’s rejoice in Him and give all glory to His name that He has chosen us to be redeemed, and called us as His people to serve in our capacity according to His Will and plan for our lives.
