The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

Leading Angel

Behold, mine Angel shall go before thee.

-Exodus 32:34

Summary of
Exodus  chapter 32:

1.    Finding that Moses delayed his return, the Israelites asks Aaron to make golden god. Aaron consents, and asks for their ornaments. They were delivered, and Aaron makes a molten calf, Exodus 32:1-4.

2.    Aaron builds an altar before Gold molten calf. People offer burnt-offerings and peace offerings, Exodus 32:5-6

3.    The Lord commands Moses to go down, telling him that the people had corrupted themselves, Exodus 32:7-8

4.    The Lord is angry and threatens to destroy them. But Moses intercedes for them, Exodus 32:9-13

5.    And the Lord promises to spare them. Moses goes down with the tables in his hands. Joshua, hearing the noise they made at their festival, makes some remarks on it, Exodus 32:14-18

6.    Moses, coming to the camp, and seeing their idolatrous worship, is greatly distressed, throws down and breaks the two tables. Takes the calf, reduces it to powder, strews it upon the water, and causes them to drink it, Exodus 32:19-20

7.    Moses expostulates with Aaron and he vindicates himself, Exodus 32:21-24.

8.    Moses orders the Levites to slay the transgressors and 3000 were killed, Exodus 32:25-29.

9.    Moses returns to the Lord on the mount, and makes supplication for the people, Exodus 32:30-32.

10.  God threatens and yet spares. Commands Moses to lead the people and promises him the direction of an angel. The people are plagued because of their sin, Exodus 32:33-35.

Today’s Verse:

God agreed to spare the nation as a whole, but He definitely reserved the right to judge individual sinners. This was God’s promise to stay faithful to Israel and to keep His presence with them.  That entire generation of adult Israelites would never enter the promised land. That specific judgment had yet to be pronounced, but God knew it would happen. This probably describes the death of the 3,000 already mentioned in Exodus 32:28.
