"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." -Rom 5:8
Today’s Verse:
Paul says Jesus died in our place. Because of our sin, we deserved to suffer God's angry judgment. We deserved death. Christ took that judgment for our sin on Himself on the cross. He suffered and died in our place. Paul insists that we should take that act as evidence of God's great love for us. But we, those who have been saved, were still sinners, and we weren't going to improve. In truth, we had no hope of avoiding God's judgment before Jesus took it for us. God proved His love for us. That makes Him worth trusting.
Christ’s death is a demonstration of God’s love. God’s love operates irrespective of human merit. Christ’s death benefits sinners by the sacrifice provided by God. God demonstrates his love for all kinds of people in society from good to bad. It is patently clear that there is no qualification in God’s love; He leaves no one out of His love. God loves us before we make any move toward Him.
God’s love for us is not based on our attractiveness to God. He doesn't love us on the basis of what we do or how we do it. He doesn't love us only so long as we love Him. He loves sinners unconditionally. Our Lord proved it by having sacrificed His Son for us. His love does not depend on who and what we are.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thanks for the day. I come into your presence so aware of my faithfulness and yet overwhelmed by your love for me. Father forgive me for misrepresenting Your Father-heart of love and thank You for showing me that Your love for me is not dependent on what I can do for You but rests entirely on what the Lord Jesus did for me, on the cross. In the name of Jesus, Amen
