James 1:19 Everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger.
We want God to hear our prayers but people to hear our opinions, which is otherwise called pride of opinion.
Prob 18:13 says, “If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame.”
However, in Rom 10:17 Paul says that ”Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of Christ.”
Hence hearing, along with faith, produces meekness, obedience and openness to learn from others and helps to speak with wisdom of God rather than our own knowledge.
Jesus said in Luke 6:45 “..of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”
Also, it’s written in Prov 15:1 “A soft answer turns away wrath but grievous words stir up anger.”
Human anger is selfish. It’s a sin that leads us to death.
But quick to hear and slow to speak causes to turn away wrath.
Prov 16:32 says that, “He that is slow to anger is better than warrior.”
Today’s verse is not just optional, it’s a command that everyone should follow.
Dear Lord, help us not only to be the hearers of the Word, but also be the doers of the Word. In Jesus Name, Amen!
