Abstain from all appearance of evil – 1 Thessalonians 5:22
Scripture has recorded following types of sins. Sins of action, Sins of thoughts and Sins of Neglect.
Sins of action:Sins of action that displeases God are drinking, stealing, blaspheming etc. In I Corinthians 6:10, we read that nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God
Sins of thoughts:Sins of mind, for example in Matthew 5:28, we read everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart
Sins of Neglect:Sins of neglect are somethings that we ignore what God has commanded us to do.If you see that your neighbor’s donkey or ox has collapsed on the road, do not look the other way. Go and help your neighbor get it back on its feet – Deuteronomy 22:4
Paul is admonishing Thessalonians to abstain from all above forms of evil. Scripture says, He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy – Prov 28:13.
Prayer: Father God, help us to abstain from all form of sins. Please guide us to do whatever is noble and whatever is pure. In Jesus name I pray – Amen!!!
