I am not ashamed for I know whom I have believed
-2 Timothy 1:12
Summary of 2 Timothy chapter 1 is as follow
Thirty years of labor for gospel had taken its toll on St Paul. His body bore the brand marks of a servant of Jesus Christ (Galatians 6:17) However, the intensity of his sufferings was minor compared to the intensity of his love and concern for the churches etched upon his heart. Unaffected by two years of house arrest in Rome, he intended to visit Asia, Macedonia and possibly Spain. Paul is very concerned about the church at Ephesus (a Greek antient city in Turkey now). He writes two letters (1Timothy and 2 Timothy) to Timothy who is a pastor in the church. Second letter he writes after his visit to Asia and after couple of years of first letter.
1. He expresses his deep love towards Timothy, 2 Timothy 1:1-5
2. He exhortation to a fearless and faithless and faithful discharge of this duties, 2 Timothy 1:6-14
3. Above these exhortations are interrupted by the Apostle’s memory of many faithless ones, and of one and only one faithful friend.
Verse 2 Timothy 1:12
Paul says that he never felt ashamed for sufferings he had to face due to teaching and gospeling to gentiles, Colossians 1:24. Because he understood the character of that Redeemer to whom he had committed his eternal interests and he that he had no reason to be ashamed of confiding in Jesus. He was able to keep all that he had entrusted to his care, and would not suffer him to be lost till the judgement day (Jesus’s second coming)
Prayer
Heavenly Father, you are my Rock and my Fortress. You are my shield and my strong tower.
Help me to anchor myself to you today. Teach me how to stand strong in you and choose only your way today.
Help me walk by your truth and not my feelings. Oh.. Lord help me to speak boldly word of God to others.
Be with me and fill in me to witness you to my surroundings.
