Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s. Matthew 22:21
On this final day before we file taxes for last year, here is the perfect reminder of whose we are. Here the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words and asked Him whether they have to pay taxes to Caesar or not. But they forgot that they are speaking to God who knew their evil intent and scolded and addressed them as hypocrites. The coin had caesar’s image and hence Jesus’ reply to render it to Caesar and He continued to say "and to God the things that are God’s". If they were a follow-up question, what belongs to God, one preacher said, whose image is on you?
On this tax day, as we make sure we do our tax returns, let us examine, whose image are we bearing? God’s? if not, this is a perfect time to accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior. If not, a day will come, we will be separated from our loving Father for eternity ( in Hell). For those of us who claim to be Christians, are we bearing His image in our daily walks of life? Can our tax documents, co-workers, neighbors, carpool friends, co-passengers, spouses, children, siblings, can see an image of God in us? A question to ask ourselves.
