“Be strong and let your heart take courage. All who hope in the Lord.” Ps. 31:24
Finding courage in times of need is a lack for many, but for those who hope in the Lord, they will find renewed strength. (Isa. 40:31).
God wants us to ”be strong and courageous” (Det. 31:6, Jos. 1:7&9), because he knows our ”thoughts and attitudes of our heart.” (Heb. 4:12). When we take courage from Him, we can withstand any hurdle life hurls at us regardless of its complexity. We have a God who gives us strength and courage in times of need and assures us through His living word.
One of the most exceptional example of courage in the history of humanity, this world has ever known, was when Jesus Christ faced the ordeal of the cross. Though, he was fully God; He was also fully man—the one perfect man who ever lived, but a man nevertheless, with the full extent of emotions that other men experience. (Hebrews 4:15).
Jesus foreknew the ridicule, rejection, suffering, and death he would face. ”God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, ” (2 cor 5:21) – He was led like a lamb to the slaughter” (Isa. 53:7) only to endure excruciating suffering and unfathomable torture for our sins, with courage.
We must remember that even in our suffering, we are victorious and more than conquerors through Him who loved us. (Rom. 8:37). Because, “we are pilgrims on this earth,” (1 Pt. 2:11), and our eternal dwelling place is in heaven, we can be confident because Jesus Christ has won the greatest victory — and that is our hope in the lord which gives us courage and strength, no matter what predicaments we encounter.
