Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy, for I am the LORD your God. Lev. 20:7
Be Holy, for I am Holy
The context of the portion is that God was leading the Israelites from one pagan culture (Egypt) to another (Canaan). God wanted them to follow His strict guidelines instead of adopting bad practices.
Whoever of the children of Israel gives (sacrifices) any of his descendants to Molech (the Ammonite god), whoring after Molech, going after spiritists (demons), and curses his father or mother; God gave a warning that “He will set His face against that man, and will cut him off from his people.”
We are not so different from the Israelites. We live in a society where so many cultures surround us. There is a trending word in our society called “adapt.” You may hear statements like you need to adapt to the latest trend, technology, and culture. In this world, we adopt the bad more quickly than the good. As God asks us to consecrate (be separated) ourselves, let us throw the bad in the dustbin and cling to what is good.
