”If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9.
To understand this verse we must learn what is the “Confession”. I looked for some synonym of this word (acceptance of blame, acknowledgement, profession, revelation, and disclosure), you may find many more, but today I would like to focus on three synonyms (acknowledge revelation, and acceptance) because the following verse of 1 John 1:10 provides us the reason for confession in us. First let’s talk about acceptance, though we were made perfect we lost our perfection when we acted with our own understanding and lose the fight and faith, we have received in Him.
We must accept that we have used our understanding over His confidence and that we are made by Him distinct from everything and authority over all the things. Acceptance of what we are and what we do plays an important part in our confession. Secondly, revelation, this is as important and fully goes with acceptance. Without revelation it is impossible to see that we are at fault. Thirdly, acknowledge, the acknowledgement is required to understand that we have received the nature of disobedience. Once we know all this the confession will become our natural response.
Confession is the state where we acknowledge that we are at the mercy of our creator because he knows our capabilities and purpose. As an IT engineer if I have developed a code, I know why it’s created, how it will work and what output I’m expecting from it. I test this several times to make sure it is fully functional, and when I see it is delivering what I expected, I release my product. The process doesn’t end there.
The cycle continues and as time passes several others bugs get identified and since I am the one who created that product, I know how to fix it. The issue can only be fixed when it is known. So we must acknowledge our nature, expose ourselves to our creator, and accept what corrective actions are required.
