“…always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:58
The best rating in an organization is given to the employee who always exceeds the job expectations. Similarly, Apostle Paul is instructing his fellow believers in Christ to always abound i.e. to exceed a fixed measure in the work of the Lord. The work of the Lord is to build His kingdom on earth by advancing the gospel among unbelievers and to establish believers in the gospel. It is both evangelism and edification. The work of the Lord is an activity with a particular goal and that is, more people bearing the image of Christ. We are co-workers with Christ in God’s service. Whatever work we do in God’s field; we need to work heartily as to the Lord and not unto men. God will reward us for our faithfulness, even when no one else sees. His ledger book gets fresh notations every time we serve Him. In a word, our labor is not in vain in the Lord.
