“Then Jesus told his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:24
It is extremely difficult to deny ourselves. But, if we know who we are, it becomes so easy that it will not take even a moment for us to take that step and give ourselves under His glory. To fully understand this passage, we have to divide this in three aspects
1) Self-denial: Denying ourselves means that we put our desires lower than God’s will.
2) Picking up our cross: the cross is the sign of death and to “take up our cross” is something that must take place in our thoughts. When our thoughts aren’t pleasing to our creator comes to our mind during the day, we must put them to death and that is an inner “cross.”
3) Follow Jesus: Following requires obedience and complete dependency. When we follow, we try to be the one who we follow. We observe them completely and do whatever they do.
So, let’s pray to be prepared to deny, pickup our cross and follow. We cannot follow unless we submit ourselves in His will and give our desires to His will.
