Repent and be Baptized

Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Acts 2:38
This verse is Peter’s response to the men who were convicted and asked him for his counsel. Peter very clearly told them to repent and each one be baptized so that they can be identified with Jesus. We see the same in the preachings of John the Baptist (Mark 1:4), Jesus (Mattew 4:17). It is only in the name of Jesus Christ there is forgiveness of sins. Repentance refers to a change of mind that turns a person from sin to God. It’s like turning a U-turn.   Genuine repentance knows that Sin must be forsaken and the complete work of Christ has to be embraced totally.
Baptism literary means "be immersed" in water. Peter was urging people who turned to Christ for salvation to identify, through the waters of baptism, with his death, burial, and resurrection.
It is true even for us in this generation also that our good deeds, pious living, charity, going to church every Sunday, participating in religious activities, preaching the word of God, pride in family heritage does, donating and giving it to the poor not earn forgiveness.  Only through faith and grace of Lord Jesus Christ.

Thought to ponder: Do you have forgiveness of sins? Probably that’s the reason the good Lord is waiting for your response before His glorious return. Why don’t you come to Christ while there is still time? We urge you!!!
