From Suffering to Glory

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." – Romans 8:28

God providentially works all things together for good for His people according to His purpose. God has Eternal purpose and He is able to accomplish His purpose, that purpose cannot be opposed by anyone or anything. As Christians, we can learn how to handle the trials which inevitably come our way. This verse is a source of great comfort. Paul has given us Encouragement and Hope with the truth that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared to the glory that will be revealed to us. In our weakness, we often do not know what to pray for, even in such times, our sovereign God is working all things together for our ultimate good.

We see in the life of Joseph, favored by his father Jacob, caused his brothers to hate him and was sold to slavery in Egypt. In God’s providence, Joseph rose from prison to prime minister of Egypt. In that role, he was able to save his extended family during a long famine. Later he explained to them in Gen. 50:20, “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.”

Whether it’s a minor irritation at work or a major, life-changing situation, we can always trust God to use it in His sovereign purpose to conform us to the image of Christ.
