“The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.” – Psalm 9:9
Oppressed are people who have no control of their own life, have no freedom and are living in a state of bondage. The great example of oppression was when the Israelites were in Egypt, they were forced to hard labor against their will. Israelites were under the severest of bondage, but the LORD had delivered them out of this oppression in what is called the Exodus. God helps the oppressed, The Lord works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed.
The LORD delivered Israelites by becoming their refuge, but the Lord delivered us all from the oppression of this world by sending His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, who was oppressed for our sake. Isaiah 53:7 says “He was oppressed, He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth”. Jesus Christ came to seek and to save those who were lost but He also came to help those oppressed from illness, disease both physically and spiritually.
Have you ever felt oppressed; oppressed by the world, by sickness, by illness, by financial circumstances, etc? Jesus says to you, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, I will give you rest.”
