But live in the fear of the LORD always.– Prov 23:17
Today’s verse is not complete of 23:17. But it starts with “Do not let your heart envy sinners, But live in the fear of the LORD always”
The book of Proverb has been written by King Solomon. Solomon learned and wrote approximately 3000 proverbs.
Here is a Proverb of hope for the discouraged and downhearted. Don’t look at those around you who are having good fortune and good times and wish for what they have. Fear the Lord, trust Him, and wait. Only someone who has been down and out or flat on their back can truly understand this one. The believer has eternal life with God. It is better simply not to look to others but look only to the Lord and wait, pray and patiently wait for His deliverance. Don’t let the success of other’s turn your head because Satan, the god of this world, takes care of his own and promotes our love of the wrong things, unnecessary things, things that God doesn’t want in our life. Also believe that we are not saved by our own efforts but by our beloved Christ’s.Note that this fear is not “shaking fear” but a reverential awe. It is like a child who fears disappointing their father or losing his approval and thus it is a “healthy” fear, good for our “spiritual health!”
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thanks for this day Help me to walk in Your light and holiness so that I don’t look at sinner’s prosperity and happiness . May your Spirit lead me in my work and help me to be joyful, creative, and worshipful–constantly reminding me of your love and that you’re the reason I have breath in my lungs. In the name of Jesus, Amen
